Székely Family and Co. Nonprofit Llc.

Who we are

Székely Family and Co. Nonprofit LLc. (SFC) is an SME with a vision to contribute to a more secure and sustainable future for the next generations. The main focus of SFC is to bring highly innovative results to the market and contribute to commercialisation of research and innovation outputs, ensuring that these results can be practical solutions for real world problems, and don’t get stuck in a filing cabinet somewhere in a lab.

Why we joined PACK

The idea of PACK was conceived at one of our late evening meetings with GM on the possible delays on shipments of parts we needed for another project. We were trying to figure out where and how we can speed up transportation. It seemed natural from the very beginning that we will coordinate both the proposal and the project together: GM leading the hardware development, SFC leading the software development. For us, besides faster and cheaper cross-border transportation of goods, the positive environmental impact was another big motivation: after a quick look into the statistics it was obvious that this solution can reduce the carbon footprint of the sector way more than it is its own. Huge amounts of gasoline and thus CO2 emission can be cut by eliminating the long queues of trucks creeping towards border crossing points every day. On top of that we have a vision how a decentralised, zero-knowledge based e-administration shall work in the future, reducing the use of personal data and sensitive business data as much as possible. Those things moved us to undertake product ownership of HUNTER, the intelligent, agent-based, blockchain and AI-powered one-stop-shop customs portal of the future.

Our role in PACK

SFC as co-coordinator brings the team’s vast expertise in managing every aspect of Horizon projects. SFC is also the lead developer of PACK’s software component, HUNTER. Beyond technology, we lead the communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities — ensuring that accurate information reaches a wide audience and strengthens community confidence in security and resilience.

How we collaborate

We stay closely aligned with the heartbeat of the project: planning and tracking project progress, contributing to design and development, demonstrating our technologies, and supporting all partners in achieving their communication and dissemination goals. In addition, we as one of the coordinators lead risk and quality management, as well as ethical and data protection issues.

Innovation we bring

SFC is responsible for the HUNTER Customs Intelligence Hub, aggregating data from the other components of the ecosystem – facilitating communication with customs checkpoints, administrative endpoints, and logistics and transport companies. This integration will enhance the digital transformation of customs administration related to goods transport. SFC also leads user acceptance and user experience testing, and towards the end of the project, organizes a live drill demonstrating the capabilities of the platform, as well a cross-border pilot demonstrating all PACK solutions.

Expected outcomes

By the end of the project, we envision to have a software that collects the data from all PACK sensors, uses artificial intelligence for risk anticipation and DLT for privacy preserving logging and authorisation. Digitalises documents and processes in the form of smart contracts, enabling efficient, secure and paperless cooperation between customs checkpoints and other administrative endpoints, logistics and transport companies and truck drivers. Connects to other digital customs solutions via API.

Our future vision

Through PACK, we aim to offer customs authorities (and border police) a reliable solution to combat human and illegal goods trafficking; logistics companies with a cost-effective and efficient tool to enhance transparency, and expedite customs clearance at border crossings.

We will do our best to continue this work beyond the project, integrating with as many national and EU-wide Customs software solutions as possible.

Beyond PACK

SFC plays a leading role in other related projects, such as BEHOLDER, that aims to deliver a cutting-edge, integrated platform for the detection, assessment and real-time response to CBRN-E incidents by leveraging IoT-enabled technologies, advanced AI, and seamless integration with smart city infrastructure.

SFC is also the communication manager of B-prepared and product developer of the project’s VR-prepared serious game in virtual reality.
